If you’ve ever scrolled through a turquoise-water Instagram reel and thought ‘I want to be there’, chances are it was filmed at Radhanagar Beach in Havelock Island. The Andamans aren’t just India’s most beautiful beach destination — they’re one of the most accessible truly pristine archipelagos anywhere on the planet.

Here’s what 12 years of crafting Andaman holidays has taught us. First, when to visit: October to mid-May is the sweet spot, with December and January being the best for honeymoons and February to April for divers. Second, plan your ferries early — inter-island ferries (Makruzz, Green Ocean, ITT Majestic) sell out 3-4 weeks in advance during peak season.

Third, the must-do experiences: the Cellular Jail Light & Sound show (book ahead), snorkeling at Elephant Beach in Havelock, the natural bridge sunrise at Neil Island, and Ross Island for its haunting British-era ruins reclaimed by jungle.

Finally, packing essentials: reef-safe sunscreen, light cotton clothes, water shoes for coral beaches, and a power bank — Andamans had its first 24×7 power grid only recently and outages still happen on outer islands.

Most travel guides will tell you to skip Meghalaya in the monsoon. We disagree — and so do all our travellers who’ve made the trip between June and September. Yes, it rains. A lot. But Cherrapunji in the rain is what Cherrapunji was always meant to be.

Nohkalikai Falls, India’s tallest plunge waterfall, drops with a roar you can hear from a kilometre away. The living root bridges of Nongriat are deep emerald-green, dripping with moss, alive in a way they never look in winter. The double-decker bridge trek (3 hours each way, 3500 stairs) is a workout, but the swimming hole at the bottom — emerald water, jungle canopy overhead — is one of those moments that stays with you.

Practical tip: stay at Cherrapunji’s homestays (we recommend Sa-I-Mika Resort) and bring waterproof shoes, dry-bags, and a sense of humour about getting wet. The monsoon also means significantly cheaper rates and almost no crowds — you’ll have most viewpoints to yourself.

Day 1-2: Arrive NJP, drive to Darjeeling. Day 2 is the classic Tiger Hill pre-dawn run (5 AM start), Batasia Loop, Ghoom Monastery, then the joy ride on the toy train. Sunset at Mall Road.

Day 3-5: Drive to Gangtok (3 hours). Spend Day 4 on the Tsomgo Lake-Baba Mandir-Nathula Pass excursion (need permits, organised in advance). Day 5 is Gangtok city — Rumtek Monastery, MG Marg evening.

Day 6: Drive to Pelling (5 hours, but views). Pemayangtse Monastery + Skywalk + Khangchendzonga Falls. Day 7: Drive back to NJP for departure. Add 2 days for Lachung-Yumthang if you have the time — it’s worth it.

There is nothing quite like waking up on a Kashmiri houseboat. The lake is glass-still in the morning. Mist rises off the water. A shikara comes by quietly, selling fresh flowers. Your host knocks on the carved walnut wood door with kahwa tea.

We’ve been booking Kashmir honeymoons since 2014. Here’s what we’ve learnt: not all houseboats are equal. Stay only on Dal Lake (not Nagin), choose ‘Deluxe’ or ‘Heritage’ category, and confirm pickup from the houseboat ghat. We work with five family-run houseboats we trust personally.

Ideal itinerary: 2 nights houseboat in Srinagar, 2 nights Gulmarg (gondola is a must), 2 nights Pahalgam, with optional day trips to Sonamarg or Yusmarg. April-May for tulip gardens, July-September for green meadows, December-February for snow.

Dubai has a reputation for being expensive. It can be — but it absolutely doesn’t have to be. We routinely send couples on 5-day Dubai trips for under ₹75,000 per person all-inclusive (visa, flights from Kolkata/Guwahati, 4-star hotel, all major experiences and meals).

The trick is timing and bundling. Travel in May-June or September (shoulder season), book 90+ days in advance, stay in Deira or Bur Dubai (40% cheaper than Marina, 15-min metro to everywhere), and bundle activities through tour operators rather than booking direct.

Don’t-miss experiences: Burj Khalifa 124th floor (book the 4 PM slot for sunset), Desert Safari with BBQ dinner (₹2500 instead of ₹5000 hotel-booked), Marina Dhow Cruise (₹2200), Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Mosque (free, but must dress code), and Souk Madinat Jumeirah for the Burj Al Arab photo.

We’ve sent over 500 honeymooners to Kerala. Here’s the honest answer to the most-asked question: should you do your houseboat in Alleppey or Kumarakom?

The short answer: do Alleppey if it’s your first time, Kumarakom if you’ve done backwaters before. The longer answer is more nuanced.

Alleppey has the larger, more developed network of canals — you’ll cruise through villages, see traditional fishing, eat lunch at a 100-year-old toddy shop, and see the famous palm-lined narrow canals from the brochures. It’s busier (50+ boats can be on the same stretch in peak season) but the variety is unmatched.

Kumarakom is quieter. The Vembanad Lake stretches wide and open, you’ll see far more birdlife (especially November-February), and the houseboats tend to be larger and more luxurious. But you spend more time on open water, less on intimate canals.

Our recommendation for first-timers: 1 night Alleppey houseboat. For repeat visitors or premium honeymoons: 1 night each, with a private transfer between.
